Mannerheim was one of the most impressive figures during the first three decades of the Finnish independence. He was a great man even in his own lifetime. | ||
Mannerheims anniversaries were occasions of prominent celebration, his 70th and 75th birthdays in 1937 and 1942, in particular. He died during the night of 27 January, 1951, in Lausanne, Switzerland, and was buried ceremoniously in the centre of Hietaniemi military cemetery in Helsinki.
