Mannerheims funeral was arranged in Helsinki on the 4th of February, 1951. | ||
The deceased was brought by air from Switzerland to Helsinki by way of Sweden. The coffin arrived at Malmi airport on the 2nd of February, after which people had an opportunity to pay their respects to the Marshal in the Helsinki Cathedral. K-A. Fagerholm presented the condolences of the state. The funeral procession then proceeded along Unionkatu, Pohjois-Esplanadi, Mannerheimitie, Arkadiankatu and Hietaniemenkatu to the Hietaniemi Cemetery, where Mannerheim was buried in the centre of the graves of soldiers.
