The Nicholas Cavalry School was established in 1865 and had room and facilities for 250 students. | ||
The course extended over two years. The instruction was aimed at action in regiments, and included such subjects as strategy, military science, topography, administration, artillery, fortifications, legal knowledge, hygienics and drawing, together with religion, Russian, French, German, mathematics, mechanics, physics, chemistry, history, economy, political science and psychology as subjects of general education. In practice, noble ancestry and completion of a course in a cadet school or some other military institution were the main requirements for admittance. Mannerheim had passed the matriculation examination, thus complementing the course of the Cadet School from where he had been dismissed. He completed his military training by the autumn 1889. |
