The Commander of the Chevalier Guards, Major-General Artur von Grünewald offered Mannerheim a chance to be transferred to the administration of the Imperial Stables. | ||
At that stage, Mannerheim had already considered his resignation from military service, and therefore gladly accepted the task, which gave him freedom and variety. The work entailed journeys abroad to purchase good horses to the stables of the Emperor. The administration of the Imperial Stables was located in St Petersburg between Moika Promenade and the Stable Square. By 1903 Mannerheim had had more than enough of the administration of the stables, and managed to get the post as the chief of the Model Squadron of the Cavalry School. He was commissioned with the further cavalry training of the officers. |
