All Marshal's cars had the same registration number, SA-1, which is a very interesting
detail in the history of Finnish motoring: no other person had ever had four cars with the
one and the same registration plate in traffic simultaneously. After the death of the
Marshal in 1951, the registration number was frozen and the automobile of the Ministry of
Defence given the number SA-2. Mannerheim had steady principles when he was riding in one of the cars at his disposal: the chauffeur was allowed to drive fast, but the destination had to be reached punctually. No bumps or swerves were allowed during the ride. Mannerheim's chauffeurs soon learned to know the Marshal's habits and demands, so that there was no need for the Marshal to get excited on the back seat. In the following, we will take a closer look at Mannerheim's best-known automobiles,
the Mercedes Benz 770 F-Cabriolet and the V12
Packard.
